About Alex
My name is Alex and I am an English drummer and drum teacher living in Copenhagen. While I do speak a little Danish, teaching will mostly be in English so if you’re open to speaking some English with me it would be my pleasure to teach you! I have 25 years’ experience on drums but am still constantly learning and growing my skillset, and in particular I have spent the last decade putting together my own comprehensive teaching system which I have taught in several countries around the world. About the teaching
I specialize in teaching acoustic drums, electronic drums and electronic percussion – and in particular I love to help people discover their creativity and self-expression through the drums. Drumming requires many different skills put together, from physical coordination to music comprehension, listening skills, creative thinking etc. My teaching system works for any skill, and I have taught kids as young as 6 who have never played an instrument all the way up to retirees looking for a new hobby and professional drummers who want to expand their skills. No matter if you have played for years or haven’t started, I believe I can help you become a better drummer – and have fun in the process!
The first lesson
Your first lesson with me depends on whether you have experience on the drums. If you have played drums before then we can evaluate your skillset, discuss what your goals are on the instrument and begin to lay out a path to hit some milestones along the way. If you’ve never played drums before then you are in for a treat! By the end of your first hour you will have learned your first drum beat, the basics of reading music (don’t worry, it’s easy for drummers!), and will be testing your coordination with drum rolls all around the kit. Either way, the long-term plan is always the same: to agree on the goals you have for yourself, and make a plan to get you there.
