Om Diogo
Diogo Alvarez is a Brazilian-Spanish classical guitarist who holds a Master’s degree from the University of Denver, USA. He has received an Outstanding Performance award from the University of Denver and has been elected a member of the honor society Pi Kappa Lambda for his achievements during his Master’s studies. He has taught classical guitar lessons and music theory tutoring sessions at the University of Denver as a Teaching Assistant, and has experience teaching students of all levels, from beginner to advanced. Whether you want to have fun learning how to play the guitar or improve your technique and musicianship to become a professional, he can give you all the insight and support to achieve your goals. As well as a teacher, Diogo is a freelance musician and has performed in venues in South and North America. He has also written album reviews for the American guitar-specialized scholarly periodical Soundboard Scholar.

Classical guitar lessons
Diogo teaches adult and teenage learners in all levels and will guide you through all elements of guitar playing, always focusing on improving your playing and developing your independence as a learner. Topics include: creating/expanding your guitar repertoire; the necessary technique to master the guitar; reading of music notation, chords, and/or tablature; developing your own interpretation and personal style while playing; music theory applied to the guitar; among others. Guitar lessons are available in a variety of genres: classical guitar, rock/pop acoustic guitar, Brazilian guitar, and more; pick your favourite and Diogo can help you in your learning!
Music theory lessons
Diogo teaches adult and teenage learners in all levels and will guide you through a range of music theory topics in an uncomplicated way. From learning the basics of music notation and theory, to finally understanding how to create a Schenker graph, analyzing the harmony of different genres and periods, or exploring the wonders of counterpoint – whatever your goal with music theory is, you can rely on his lessons to take you through the steps to get there!
Location
Take lessons without ever disrupting your routine or spending time in traffic – you can have lessons at your own home or online (via Zoom in real time or via personalized recorded videos)! You may also choose which language you want to learn in – English, Portuguese or Spanish.

In your first lesson, you will have the opportunity to explain your goals and needs, and based on that, you and Diogo will discuss the best educational path for you. From the very beginning, the lessons will be aimed at what you want to achieve, and you will have a clear idea of the steps towards that. Diogo’s classroom is a safe environment for you to ask questions, try things out, make mistakes, and learn a great deal – and you will leave each lesson knowing how to keep moving forward in music.
